Confidence
by Kate Dean

Left somewhere
On the seat in a subway train
On a park bench
Under the bed in a house no longer lived in

Grand images
Dance and spiral
Play keep-away
With line and color

Thickness rises up the sides of the face
Pulls down the eyes
Trickles down the seam
Between heart and soul

Clustered snow falls on the skylight
So easily takes the unoccupied space
How do they know?
Their lightness deceives.
