Early March after a Snowstorm
by Corey Cook

The robins returned to Henniker,
hundreds and hundreds
of round rust colored chests
in the trees, they could
have been oranges arranged
on the branches as their heads,
backs, and legs blended in
with the bare limbs. One, its back
to the west, was particularly round,
feathers raised, venting.
For a brief moment I felt
the warmth from that orange orb
before it dropped out of sight.
